On 3 July at Pantin, Javier Blanco Diaz was elected Chairman of WSKA.
Since then, the Chairman has been unsuccessful creating good communications and a constructive dialogue about surf kayaking with the Committee and the Country Representatives. Many of this group have spent considerable time and efforts trying to understand the situation, offering help and trying to make it work.
From 1 to 5 August, a vote of no-confidence in the Chairman was brought. The proposal was carried by both Committee members and by Country Representatives, with a clear majority in both cases, and with no votes against.
As a result, Javier Diaz is no longer Chairman of WSKA.
We thank Javier for offering to take the role of Chairman in Pantin. No one is pleased about the way the past month has developed, and there are no winners in this situation. Javier remains on the committee, and we hope surf kayaking will benefit from his enthusiasm and ideas.
For the immediate future, the role of Chairman has defaulted back to the previous Chairman, Pete Blenkinsop. This is with Committee members’ and Country Reps’ approval. This is a temporary appointment, with the job of re-establishing good communications, ensuring the WSKA is on a stable footing with clear procedures, and to hold an election for a new Chairman.
